Job Title: Kitchen Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Non-Union, Part Time
Salary: $24.00 per hour

Summary

To manage the Central Kitchen of the non-profit organization in Santa Clara, CA. To handle grocery delivery, help in menu planning, keep track of inventory, stock items, and ensure the kitchen is ready and is fully equipped for weekend cooking activities. The position is for three days a week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (not to exceed 8 hours per day). No overtime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct rounds of all areas of the kitchen to ensure that it is fully stocked, clean and operational at all times.
  • Responsible for coordination of groceries, kitchen equipment involved in the preparation, packaging and dispatching of meals to the unhoused.
  • Responsible for menu planning each week and ensuring that items for the menu are available by Friday night.
  • Responsible for estimating product costs and completing inventory reports for review and analysis.
  • Ensures that masks, hairnets, gloves are in stock, and aprons are laundered and cleaned each week.
  • Keeps the basement storage area clean and organized.
  • Assists site managers on an as-needed basis at weekend sevas.
  • Monitors groceries after each weekend service; makes adjustments to minimize over-production; maintains records of orders.
  • Develops cleaning schedule for facility and equipment ensures all utensils, equipment and facilities are kept in a sanitary, orderly condition.
  • Assures that the maintenance of equipment is in good working order; schedules repairs as needed.
  • Manages kitchen equipment, including maintenance and procurement.
  • Drives a motor vehicle incidental to the performance of the work.
  • Maintains storage and stock in adherence to health and fire codes and accepted good practices.

Requirements:

  • Regular onsite attendance is required of this position (Friday, Saturday, Sunday each week, not to exceed 8 hours);
  • Knowledge of institutional cooking practices and procedures with emphasis on cooking a large number of meals, including food storage, preparation, service and delivery methods and techniques;
  • Ability to use a wide variety of food preparation tools and equipment;
  • Experience preparing food in large quantities;
  • Experience ordering food and non-consumables to ensure adequate amounts of food and supplies;
  • Knowledge of proper methods for maintaining equipment, utensils, and work area in a clean and orderly condition;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others;
  • Ability to follow oral and written instruction; and Ability to use a computer and ancillary equipment;
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor the food costs and stay within the budget associated with the operation of the central kitchen;
  • Must possess physical stamina to stand for long periods of time. Good to have: sufficient strength to lift and carry large food containers weighing up to 50 lbs;
  • Must be willing to complete required training and/or certification in food service management and sanitation within 12 months of hiring;
  • Must pass criminal background check and maintain a clean driving record
  • Must have a valid CA Driver’s License for work-related tasks as needed, have access to drive a motor vehicle incidental to this performance of the work and be insured

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job may supervise hired cleaning staff and or repair personnel.
