Community Seva Inc. Hosts MLK Day of Service to Support the Unhoused in Santa Clara County
San Jose, CA – Community Seva Inc. marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a powerful day of service in honor of Dr. King’s legacy of community and service. On January 20, 2025, over 21 volunteers came together to support unhoused individuals across Santa Clara County, distributing essential items to those in need. The event spanned multiple locations, including San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and Gilroy, focusing on encampments and safe parking lots.
The day’s activities included:
- Preparing and serving a hot, nutritious lunch for more than 300 individuals
- Packing and distributing 300 backpacks filled with blankets, beanies, gloves, socks, rain ponchos, and hygiene kits
- Distributing shoes, socks, and winter essentials to those in need
- Delivering blankets and warm meals to 60 individuals staying in overnight warming centers across two locations
“Today, we are reminded of the power of community and how we can all come together to make a difference. The efforts of our volunteers and partners are truly a testament to Dr. King’s belief in serving others,” said Nathan Ganeshan, President and Founder of Community Seva Inc.
Several local advocates for the unhoused community lent their expertise and support during the distribution, assisting in outreach and ensuring that the most vulnerable individuals were served. Their collaboration was crucial to the success of the event and helped amplify the impact of the day’s efforts.
Elected officials also visited the event to show their support and recognize the importance of giving back to those in need. State Senator Dave Cortese, Assembly Member Ash Kalra, County Supervisor Board President Otto Lee, and Supervisor Sylvia Arenas’s representative all stopped by to commend the work of Community Seva and its volunteers – “MLK Day is an important opportunity to give back and make a meaningful impact in our communities,” “Community Seva’s commitment to helping the unhoused is inspiring, and I am proud to be part of today’s efforts ”
This impactful day of service is part of Community Seva’s ongoing mission to provide assistance to underserved populations and promote the spirit of volunteerism in the region.
