Youth Volunteer Interview

This month, we would like to honor Sanika Sahasrabudhe as our spotlight volunteer this month. She is a senior at Evergreen Valley High School. Sanika donated her first income from a summer job to Community Seva! We want to sincerely thank Sanika for her selfless donation and empathy.

Summer of 2017 – I was going to get paid on a bi-weekly basis for the very first time in my life! In this moment of excitement and euphoria, made a promise to myself on donating a portion of my summer salary to a charitable organization.

Growing up, my parents emphasized the value of being grateful for the things we have; and having empathy for the ones who don’t have the things they need. Putting this belief and these values in action helped me make the decision to donate. Driving through some areas in San Jose and witnessing tremendous disparity between haves and have-notes, I always wanted to make a difference (however small) to the local community I live in.

Through Community Seva website and the periodic coverage in Evergreen Times, I was very much aware of the incredible work they do in feeding the hungry and serving the homeless in San Jose Bay Area. In fact, I explored being an Intern at Community Seva and contribute through my time. Hence the decision to donate to Community Seva was a no-brainer to me. I got doubly excited when my dad told me about his employer (Cisco) having a matching gift program which helped double my donation to Community Seva.

Thanks to good ole Benjamin Franklin for inventing the ‘matching gift’ concept which helped double my donation to Community Seva. Thanks to Community Seva for the awesome work they are doing – and thanks to Cisco for their matching gift!
